Basic math leads NK to win over Sehome

It’s simple math – 3 is more than 2.

So with top-seed North Kitsap standout Jonas La Tour knocking down 3’s like they were layups the Vikings easily beat eighth-seeded Sehome 73-42 last Friday at Foss High School to advance to state.

The Vikings go straight to the quarterfinals March 3 at 5:30 p.m. at the SunDome in Yakima. They play the winner between seventh-seed Port Angeles and 10th seed Franklin Pierce. They play March 2.

Against Sehome, NK got off to a fast start and cruised from there. NK won the game from the 3-point line, shooting 56% to only 6% for Sehome.

La Tour hit a 3 from the right baseline and then again near the top of the key to give NK at 16-6 lead. He knocked down another trey from the left baseline to put the Vikings in front 21-8.

Johny Olmsted scored off a fastbreak layup, and when La Tour swished two more 3’s from the left corner the Vikings pulled out in front 52-32.

It wasn’t just all offense, however.

When Sehome tried to score inside, Colton Bower wrestled the ball away for a steal, and passed to La Tour, who took a dribble or two then slam dunked the ball with one hand, bringing the house down.

And near the end of the game, when Sehome again tried to score inside, Aiden Olmstead swatted the ball away.

The Vikings outrebounded their foes 41-29, had more assists 13-3 and had six steals to four for Sehome.
