Postseason for locals coming into focus

6 BHS wrestlers advance to regionals

Seedings for the 2A District 2/3 Boys Basketball Tournament haven’t been announced yet but as the No. 1 1 ranked team in the state North Kitsap will have a home game Feb. 16.

North Kitsap is 13-0 in Olympic League play and 18-2 overall. Their last game is at Port Angeles Friday. The Roughriders are 12-1 in league, with their only loss by two points to the Vikings in Poulsbo last month.

In games Wednesday, Kingston fell to Bremerton 86-48. The Bucs are 4-10 in Olympic League play, 7-12 overall. Bremerton is third in league at 10-4, and Bainbridge is fourth at 8-6. The Spartans, as a 3A team, did not qualify for postseason play because they had to finish third or better in the 2A league.

The North Kitsap girls are 10-3, and will finish third in the league so they also could host a game in the first round of the playoffs Feb. 15, depending on the seedings. Sequim is first at 13-1 with PA second at 12-1 and Kingston fourth at 7-7. Bainbridge was fifth at 6-8 so didn’t qualify for the playoffs for the same reason the boys didn’t.

PA has two tough games to end the season, at North Kitsap Feb. 10 and hosting Sequim Feb. 12.

North Kitsap and Kingston will be among those competing at the subregional meet today at the South Hill Mall in Puyallup.

The West Central District meet is Feb. 20 with state Feb. 25-26 at Lake Sammamish High School.

Regional westling tournaments are Feb. 12, with the state Mat Classic Feb. 18-19 at the Tacoma Dome.

Bainbridge wrestlers who qualified will compete at Snohomish High School, and North Kitsap and Kingston wrestlers who qualified will be at Lindbergh. Any girls who qualified for district will be at Sedro-Woolley.

At last week’s subregionals, Spartan Aubrie Auckland placed first, while teammate Alex Morrison was third.

Four boys also are advancing to regionals based on their subregional performances.

Wyatt Goade placed second, Wyatt Chabott third, and Garrett Goade and Quentin Ikuse both finished fourth.
