Alleged drunken driver injures 4 in crash

Four people were taken to the hospital Saturday after an 18-year-old Bremerton woman suspected of being drunk crashed her car in North Kitsap.

Kitsap County sheriff deputies responded with rescue personnel from North Kitsap Fire and Rescue, Poulsbo Fire and Bainbridge Fire to the 20000 block of Columbia Street NE, south of Robin Lane NE, for a rollover collision involving a vehicle with five occupants.

Traffic deputies determined that the 2007 Hyundai Elantra had been southbound on Columbia Street at a high rate of speed and lost control coming out of a curve. The vehicle overturned and came to rest in a ditch on the opposite side of the road, a KCSO news release says.

A man and woman were airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with life-threatening injuries, while another man and woman were transported to St. Michael’s Medical Center in Silverdale with less serious injuries. The two that were airlifted to Harborview are now in “satisfactory” condition, according to the hospital.

The driver was contacted on scene and suspected to be under the influence of alcohol. She was processed for the suspected impairment, and deputies obtained a warrant for a blood sample. She was evaluated for minor injuries at St. Michael’s and then arrested and booked into the county jail on suspicion of four counts of vehicular assault, which she was later charged for.

Investigators believe the vehicle may have left a party in the area of the Poulsbo Cemetery just prior to the collision.

Anyone with information is asked to email deputy Rob Corn at RCorn@co.kitsap.wa.us or deputy Kevin Denney at KDenney@co.kitsap.wa.us or call the KCSO traffic unit office at 360-337-4634.
